_A walk that takes you from hand-made cloth to high-end fashion_ Buying and selling is a main function of most towns. Some market towns with especially strong advantages attracted more trade and evolved to have much more than a market place, a parish church and a few houses. Leeds became important for trading locally-made woollen cloth, especially after the mid-sixteenth century. The street where the twice-weekly cloth market was held is still one of the main trading streets in the compact retail area. How did the business of trading home-made lengths of woven wool lead to the development of a place with 1000 shops? And how is trading in the age of the internet influencing Leeds city centre? We start and finish at The Adelphi [https://www.theadelphileeds.co.uk/], where hearty lunches and good ale are available. You can carry on to an afternoon of shopping, take in a museum or gallery … or come on another tour. Find out more about your guide Rachael Unsworth [https://www.leedscitywalkingtours.co.uk/]
