LEEDS WATERFRONT FESTIVAL 2017 – 10th Anniversary Celebration Weekend

The annual Leeds Waterfront Festival returns in June and promises to be the best yet! Bringing 4 miles of the city’s waterways to life, the festival will be brimming with activities and creativity on the water, on the boats and on dry land. It’s set to be an amazing weekend of family-friendly fun activities, music, performance and art!

2017 marks the 10th anniversary of the Leeds Waterfront Festival and this will be a special celebratory weekend covering 11 destinations and the spaces in between.

Starting at Armley Industrial Museum, the festival celebrates key sites along the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire. There will be water-based activities at Granary Wharf, a French-themed feast created by Brasserie Blanc at Victoria Wharf, and a vintage and designer market with Craft Ales and live music at Calls Landing on The Calls. The party atmosphere at Brewery Wharf will feature Leeds legends’ Utah Saints head-lining at the 212 Café Bar. At the heart of the South Bank, visitors can enjoy The Tetley, the legendary Dragon Boat Races and the Street Food Awards Northern Heat at Leeds Dock.  The Royal Armouries will host fun historical story telling alongside a curious mock weir and book launch by the river on Armouries Way hosted by the Flood Alleviation Scheme (FAS)….all this then musical boat trips all the way to family-themed fun at Thwaite Mills in Hunslet!

“We’re looking forward to helping make Leeds Waterfront Festival extra special this year and help more people than ever to enjoy our wonderful Leeds waterscape, from the River Calder and the Aire & Calder Navigation to Leeds Liverpool Canal.  This year there are even more activities taking place on our waterways with canal barges, boat trips, canoe taster sessions, dragon boat racing, stand-up paddle boarding, canoe polo and the Junk Boat race.  If you’ve never explored the Leeds waterfront – this is the perfect chance to see what’s on your doorstep.”

Tom Wright, Development and Engagement Manager at the Canal & River Trust

To celebrate the special 10th Anniversary the Leeds Waterfront Festival Team will be inviting you to get involved in a very exciting World Record attempt too, check out the website for more information!

Leeds Waterfront Festival would not be possible without the on-going support from Canal & River Trust and Leeds City Council.
